When pronouncing the consonant 'r' the tip of the tongue goes upwards, sets against the alveoli, and vibrates.

The letter written or typed in this way is called rae.

It is traced out with one movement of the hand and is written between the three upper lines: movement of the hand begins above the upper line, goes downwards from right to left drawing a slightly round-headed inclined line, extending into an arc drawn between the middle lines and open to the right. Movement of the hand continues from left to right drawing two semi-circles side by side between the middle lines.
